Sultanpur: A powerful explosion tore through a house in Miyaganj market, Sultanpur, early Wednesday morning, injuring at least twelve people and reducing the building to rubble. The blast occurred around 4 a.m. at the home of Nazir Ahmed in the Jaisinghpur Kotwali area.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple blasts followed by flames and thick smoke. Villagers rushed to the scene and alerted police and fire officials. Rescue teams pulled several people from the debris. The injured include Nazir Ahmed, his wife Jamatul Nisha, sons Mohammad Anees, Noor Mohammad, Sahil, and Sohail, daughters Sania and Khushi, daughter-in-law Sahana, and three children of neighbor Abdul Hameed.
All the injured were taken to the Community Health Centre in Jaisinghpur. Four, including Kaif, Sahil, and Jamatul Nisha, were later referred to Sultanpur Medical College for further treatment. The explosion was so intense that nearby homes belonging to Abdul Hameed, Guddu Verma, and Laxmi Prasad also suffered damage. Household items and walls were destroyed, and residents reported a strong smell of gunpowder.
Firecracker shells found at the site have led police to suspect the blast was caused by stored explosives. Nazir’s eldest son, Yasir, who lives separately, is known to be involved in the firecracker trade. A forensic team is examining the debris to determine the exact cause.
Senior officials, including the ADM, ASP, and CO Jaisinghpur, inspected the site. Police have cordoned off the area, and an investigation is underway to verify whether firecrackers were being stored illegally in the house.
