Kalaburagi, Karnataka: A large and peaceful protest was held today at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mini Vidhana Soudha, in Kalaburagi under the banner of Kul Jamaati Ittehad Kalaburagi to express strong opposition to the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The protest was organized in response to a call by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and witnessed widespread participation from the Muslim community, reported the Hindu.
Protestors denounced the new amendments, terming them discriminatory, unconstitutional, and an assault on religious freedoms. They submitted a detailed memorandum to the District Collector, addressed to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, urging an immediate rollback of the amendments.
The memorandum argued that the changes violate fundamental rights under Articles 14, 25, 26, and 29 of the Constitution, and infringe on the community’s rights to manage religious and charitable endowments. Protest leaders warned that the amendments could erode minority autonomy and threaten the secular nature of the Indian Republic.
Several notable personalities endorsed the memorandum, including Asgar Chulbul, Moulana Shareef Mazhari, Zakir Hussain, Mubeen Ahmed, Rizwan Siddiqui, Shahnaz Akhtar, Jabbar Advocate, Moulana Nooh, Laxmikant Hubli, and Professor Sanjay Makal.
They collectively demanded that the Union Government revoke the controversial changes to safeguard the democratic and secular values enshrined in the Constitution.
