The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra denounced the incident and warned the government about the growing sense of insecurity among Muslims
Mumbai: Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra, has strongly condemned the brutal attack by Hindu extremists on Muslim meat traders in Aligarh. He warned the government that such incidents are increasing the sense of insecurity among Muslims in the country. The Ameer expressed concern that the repeated terrorist-like attacks on Muslims are causing growing anxiety in the community.
Maulana Ilyas Khan stated that such events can play a significant role in tearing apart the social fabric, and once that is damaged, it will be very difficult to mend – posing a serious threat to the country’s security and unity. In such circumstances, the negative consequences could be even more severe, especially when the government’s attitude toward these brutal incidents seems like silent approval of the culprits.
He added that incidents against Muslims have become routine, and the government’s and administration’s approach to them is deeply regrettable. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra believes that mob lynching – of which Muslims are the primary victims – is met only with token actions. There is a pressing need for strict measures and appropriate punishment for the culprits, so that a sense of fear of the law is instilled in them and the lawlessness, jungle raj, or anarchic conditions spreading in the country can be curbed.
Commenting on the situation in Maharashtra, Maulana Ilyas Khan said that the state government needs to pay serious attention. For many years, there have been efforts to disrupt communal harmony and incite violence against Muslims. As a result, violence erupted in Mira Road, Mumbai at the beginning of last year, in Nagpur in March this year, and in Akola in 2023. Besides these, numerous communal clashes have taken place, and the trend is continuing.
Maulana Ilyas Khan noted that Muslims are increasingly disturbed by the government’s lenient attitude toward those inciting violence, while excessive force is being used against Muslim youth. He demanded that the Maharashtra government take its responsibilities seriously and take control over those who are trying to create hatred between communities and push the state toward violence.
Expressing hope, the Ameer of JIH Maharashtra said, “We hope that the Government of India will work toward creating an environment that discourages those who incite violence and supports individuals and organisations striving to establish peace and harmony.”
