Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra, Condemns Detention of Farmer Leaders in Akola

Mumbai – Maulana Ilyas Khan Falahi, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Maharashtra, has strongly condemned the arbitrary detention of farmer leaders by the police in Akola during the visit of Maharashtra’s Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis.

In his statement to the press, Maulana Ilyas Khan said, “We strongly denounce the unjust detention of farmer leaders by the Akola police. Mr. Hussain Khan, President of Shetkari Vikas Manch, was reportedly taken into custody solely for representing the voice of the farming community. This is not only undemocratic but also a serious misuse of state authority intended to stifle dissent and violate the constitutional right to peaceful protest. It is not just a crackdown on individuals, but an attempt to suppress the collective voice of Maharashtra’s struggling farmers.”

He further added, “The concerns of farmers are real and must be addressed with empathy and seriousness. Arresting leaders simply because a political dignitary is visiting the area reflects a deep-rooted fear within the government. Instead of silencing protestors, the government should focus on resolving critical rural issues like unjust pricing, mounting debt, frequent crop failures, and lack of infrastructure and institutional support. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra calls upon the state government to engage in sincere dialogue with farmer organisations and prioritise their legitimate demands. We express full solidarity with Mr. Hussain Khan and all those who stand up for justice, dignity, and farmers’ rights.”
