Noida — In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage and debate online, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, President of the All India Imam Association and a frequent face on Indian news debates, was physically assaulted inside a Noida-based television studio during the filming of a live debate show.
The attack reportedly took place during a break in the program after Rashidi allegedly made controversial remarks against Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. A video clip that has since gone viral on social media shows two men — identified as Mohit Nagar and Kuldeep Bhati — approaching Rashidi and repeatedly slapping him before studio security intervened.
Both assailants are said to have links with the Samajwadi Party. The footage of the assault, which occurred in Sector 126 of Noida, has been widely shared, drawing divided reactions. While some netizens condemned the use of violence inside a media platform, others defended the attackers, citing Rashidi’s inflammatory remarks.
Maulana Rashidi later filed a police complaint, alleging that the attack was premeditated and not a spontaneous reaction. He also claimed that he had been receiving threats due to his public statements in recent weeks. However, as of the latest updates, no formal FIR has been registered.
This marks the first instance of physical violence against Rashidi in a TV studio, although he is no stranger to controversy. Known for his outspoken views, Rashidi has often clashed with both political and religious opponents on live television.
The TV channel involved has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
