Mayawati Criticizes UP Govt Over Loudspeaker Removal During Ramzan

Lucknow – BSP chief Mayawati condemned the Uttar Pradesh government’s action of removing unauthorized loudspeakers from religious sites during Ramzan, calling for equal treatment of all religions.
On X, she stated, “India is a secular country that respects all religions. Governments must ensure fairness, but Muslims are facing step-motherly treatment even in religious matters.”
She urged authorities to enforce rules fairly for all religious festivals. “Restrictions and exemptions should apply equally to all,” she said.
‘Selective Enforcement May Harm Peace’
Mayawati warned that biased actions could disrupt peace and harmony. “Such selective enforcement naturally harms social harmony, which is a serious concern,” she added.
Ramzan began in India on Sunday, marking a month of fasting and prayers. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and perform special night prayers, including the complete recitation of the Quran.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government is cracking down on loudspeakers exceeding noise limits at all religious places. Police are enforcing the order strictly, prompting Muslim leaders to seek exemptions for Ramzan.
