Meerut: Police in Meerut registered an FIR after a video showing three youths being assaulted on a public road drew sharp reactions online. The short clip, which spread widely across social media, recorded five men stopping a motorcycle carrying three riders and attacking them with sharp weapons, sticks and iron rods.
The clip runs for nineteen seconds. It shows two assailants with covered faces and three with uncovered faces. One section of the video shows a victim falling to the ground while an attacker kicks him in the face. The footage led to public anger and calls for immediate action.
City Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh said the assault is believed to have taken place on November 6 in the Kanker Kheda area. He said police filed an FIR under relevant sections soon after the video surfaced. He added that technical teams are studying the footage to confirm identities and link each suspect to the assault. Multiple teams have been deployed to track down the attackers.
Singh said officers are working to verify the motive behind the attack. He said arrests will follow once the identities of all five suspects are confirmed.
The police response comes amid rising concern over public assaults triggered by minor disputes. Community members in Meerut shared the video widely and pressed for quick action. Law enforcement said it will move forward based on digital evidence, eyewitness accounts and further verification.
