Washington: British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan strongly rejected racist comments made by far-right commentator Laura Loomer during a heated online exchange over immigration. Loomer targeted Hasan, telling him to “go back to the UK or to an Islamic country,” and questioned why he lived in the United States.
The clash began after Hasan commented on a report of a fatal shootout involving a 40-year-old man identified as a Mormon churchgoer. Reacting to the incident, Hasan wrote, “An AR-15, an American flag, and a mass shooting. Nothing more American than that, I guess.” Loomer responded with an attack on Hasan’s heritage, accusing him of hating the United States and insisting he should leave.
Hasan quickly corrected her claim, stating, “India is where my parents were born, and it is not an Islamic country. You have the knowledge, intellect, and IQ of a very small (and angry) child.” His response drew widespread attention online, with many highlighting how Loomer’s comments reflected a broader pattern of anti-immigrant rhetoric that has intensified under Donald Trump’s administration.
Hasan later amplified criticism of Trump-era immigration policies by sharing a Rolling Stone report on the suspension of visitor visas from Gaza, including humanitarian and medical cases. He condemned the policy, writing that preventing children from accessing healthcare was evidence of a “soulless” political agenda. Loomer replied with further inflammatory remarks, calling children seeking medical treatment “Islamic invaders,” before deleting her post.
Loomer has frequently supported Trump’s immigration raids and has a record of racially charged statements. Her latest remarks reignited debate on the growing hostility faced by Muslim and immigrant communities in the United States.
