Hyderabad: Making a significant progress in providing Hyderabad Metro connectivity to the Old City, the Government of Telangana today paid Rs.20 crore compensation to 41 owners of 34 affected properties.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) MD N.V.S. Reddy and Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durisetti participated in the cheque distribution programme.
Reddy said that appropriate compensation is being paid to those who lose their properties for road widening and construction of 7.5 km long Metro line in the Old City from MGBS to Chandrayangutta as per the orders of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He said the suggestions of MP Asaduddin Owaisi have been taken into consideration in this process.
The HAML MD said the second phase of the Metro will have more facilities than the first phase and this will transform the Old City. He said that as per the suggestion of the MP, modern facilities such as skywalks, footpaths, etc., will be provided from the proposed Metro stations to tourist areas like Charminar, Lad Bazaar, and Salar Jung Museum.
He said the Chief Minister has given directions for the development of the Old City and accordingly, Metro is being made available to the residents of the Old City.
“We are ready to fulfil the CM’s resolve to complete the seven- and-a-half kilometer Old City Metro in four years at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,741 crore,” he said.
He revealed that arrangements are also being made to start the advanced multi-level parking project with German Puzzle Technology in Nampally next month, which will also be the gateway to the development of the Old City.
Asaduddin Owaisi said the Metro Rail, which the residents of the Old City have been waiting for a long time, is now being implemented. He thanked the Chief Minister for this. He made it clear that they will extend full cooperation with the efforts being made by Metro MD NVS Reddy. He feels that if skywalks are constructed at the proposed Salar Jung and Charminar Metro stations to the monuments, it will not only be convenient for tourists but will also benefit the locals.
Owaisi appealed to the Metro MD to give due priority to the affected land owners to set up businesses at the upcoming Metro stations.
District Collector Durisetti Anudeep said that adequate compensation has been decided for the displaced people who came forward for the Metro Rail project, which everyone has welcomed. A compensation of about Rs. 1,000 crore will be paid for a total of 1100 properties, and the locals are fully cooperating with them, the District Collector said.
