Muslim Man Dies in Custody in Mewat, Family Alleges Police Assault

Nuh: A 24-year-old Muslim man, Shahrukh Khan, died in police custody in Haryana’s Nuh district, also known as Mewat. His family has accused the police of assaulting him, calling it a case of custodial murder. The incident has sparked outrage among locals and renewed debate over custodial violence in the region.

Shahrukh was reportedly detained in connection with a robbery case. His relatives said he was taken to the police station, where he was beaten and later declared dead at a nearby hospital. They claimed he had no criminal history and was falsely accused. The family also alleged that police delayed medical care and failed to inform them about his condition.

Local residents have demanded a judicial inquiry and immediate suspension of the officers involved. Protests have been held in Nuh, with community leaders calling for transparency and accountability in the investigation.

Police officials confirmed Shahrukh’s death but denied the allegations of torture. They stated that all medical procedures were followed and a post-mortem examination was conducted. The report is awaited.

The death has once again drawn attention to the issue of custodial violence in India, where concerns about excessive force and lack of oversight remain widespread. Activists have urged authorities to ensure impartial investigations and protection for vulnerable communities.
