Hyderabad, Aug 29: On an appeal by the Telangana government, the Milad Committee decided not to take out Milad procession on September 16 in view of the Ganesh festival.
As Milad-Un-Nabi is likely to be celebrated on September 16 and the 10-day Ganesh festival is concluding on September 17 with a massive immersion procession, the state government requested the organisers of Milad procession to postpone the annual procession to September 19.
The decision was taken at a meeting Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held with ministers, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, other AIMIM MLAs, and leaders of various Muslim organisations today.
The participants were informed that the Ganesh Navaratri festival will be held from September 7 to September 17. As maintaining law and order and ensuring smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion procession is a huge challenge for the government, the Chief Minister and the ministers suggested to the members of the Milad Committee to consider the possibility of postponing the Milad-Un-Nabi procession. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Sridhar Babu, Adviser to Chief Minister Vem Narender Reddy, and Akbaruddin Owaisi were entrusted with the responsibility of discussing the issue with the Milad Committee. After a separate meeting , the members of the committee responded positively to the government’s request to postpone the procession.
The members of the Milad-Un-Nabi Committee said that the 1499th birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad ﷺ will be held on September 16 and requested the Chief Minister to permit them to organize year-long celebrations of the Prophet’s 1500th birthday next year. The Chief Minister said that the government will give permissions as per the rules. The committee members appealed to give permission for the decoration of mosques and processions in the district headquarters. The Chief Minister suggested to the committee members to prepare a list and submit. The CM directed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to look into the matter and make appropriate arrangements. Director General of Police Jitender, Greater Hyderabad Gadwal Vijayalaxmi and other officials participated in the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed the police to chalk out an action plan for making security arrangements and ensure that no problem arises in the entire Telangana on September 16 and 17. As September 17 also mark the anniversary of erstwhile Hyderabad State’s accession to the Indian Union, political parties are also planning to hold rallies and other programmes on the day.
This is the second year in a row that Milad procession was postponed in view of Ganesh festival. Last year Ganesh immersion coincided with Milad-un-Nabi and on the request of then BRS government, Milad Committee postponed the procession.
