Minorities will get due rights, assures Telangana CM

Hyderabad, Feb. 10: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has assured that the Congress government in the state will take all steps to ensure that minorities get their due rights and a plan for their overall development is implemented.

He gave the assurance in the Assembly while replying to debate on the Motion of Thanks to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s address to the joint sitting of the legislature.

Claiming that the government has already initiated measures for the development of minorities, he said the government would take further steps on proposals to be received in this regard.

Revanth Reddy pointed out that after coming to power the Congress government took steps to provide representation to minorities in the Legislative Council. He mentioned that former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir has been appointed as advisor to the government on welfare of minorities.

The Chief Minister also told the House that Advocate Imran Khan was appointed as Additional Advocate General. He assured that while appointing vice-chancellors for the universities, the Muslim community will also be given representation. The government has already appointed a search committee for appointments of vice-chancellors.

Revanth Reddy said that the government has also appointed economist Professor Amir Ullah Khan as a member of Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) and promised to provide representation to minorities in other commissions. Steps are also being taken to appoint leaders from minorities in various corporations.

He said the state government will soon take a decision on the demand to allow shops and business establishments to remain open till late in the night during the coming holy month of Ramzan.

He claimed that the government has initiated steps for the development of the Old City of Hyderabad. As part of these measures, it has approved Metro Rail works in the Old City. This will not only provide connectivity to various areas of the Old City but will also pave way for their development.

A project is also being taken up for beautification of the Musi River. He said Musi Riverfront development will be a world-class project.

Revanth Reddy assured that the government will not ignore any problems of minorities and the Old City.
