Jaipur, Aug 30: The recent attack on Rafeek Khan, MLA from Adarsh Nagar Assembly and Chairman of Rajasthan State Minority Commission, has sparked outrage among minority leaders and organisations. Several prominent voices have condemned the incident, demanding strict action against the culprit and an in-depth investigation into the attack.
Mujahid Naqvi, General Secretary of Milli Council Rajasthan (MCR), criticised the state government for its alleged negligence in ensuring the safety of public representatives.
“How can a government that fails to provide security to the general public guarantee the safety of its MLAs?” Naqvi questioned.
He accused the government of taking the matter lightly because MLA Rafeek Khan is a Muslim, labelling the administration as “anti-minority, anti-Dalit, anti-SC, anti-ST.”
The MCR has called for an inquiry under the National Security Act (NSA) and demanded that a case be registered against the accused under severe charges. Naqvi added that a memorandum would soon be submitted to bring this matter to the attention of the concerned authorities.
Abdul Salam Johar, Convener of Rajasthan Muslim Progressive Federation, echoed similar sentiments, strongly condemning the attack.
“The Federation demands that the Chief Minister take strict action against these anti-social elements by registering a case under stringent sections,” he stated.
Johar also called for a thorough investigation by the police administration to determine if there is any conspiracy behind the attack, the motive behind it, and if any other individuals were involved. He insisted that necessary measures be put in place to ensure the safety of MLA Rafeek Khan and to prevent such incidents in the future, thereby maintaining peace in the city.
Mohammad Nazimuddin, State General Secretary of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum, also expressed deep concern over the attack, describing it as a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He questioned the safety of the general public if even an elected MLA could be targeted. Nazimuddin demanded an inquiry into the incident and urged for robust security arrangements for the Chief Whip and MLA.
