MLC Amer Ali Khan demands appointment of Muslim officers as SHOs

Hyderabad, Aug 31: Member of Telangana Legislative Council Amer Ali Khan has expressed his concerns over the absence of Muslim Station House Officers (SHOs) within the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.

This Commissionerate, which comprises approximately 75 police stations across various zones, currently lacks any Muslim representation at the SHO level, he said in a formal representation to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The Congress MLC emphasized the pressing need for inclusivity. He noted that while reiterating the Congress’ commitment to the welfare of minority communities, including Muslims, this significant aspect of representation has been neglected.

Drawing attention to the findings of the Sachar Committee Report, which underscored the importance of Muslim representation in law enforcement, Amer Ali Khan urged the Chief Minister to use his authority to appoint Muslim SHOs within the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.

Khan further asserted that such a move would not only be a step toward ensuring justice but also serve as a testament to the government’s dedication to equitable representation of all communities.

“The Sachar Committee report talks about giving proper representation of Muslims in the police force. Of course, the upholding of law and order is most important, and must not be compromised. Also important are confidence-building measures of the police with communities, including the Muslim community. Representation of Muslims as SHOs can be a step toward this goal,” Khan said.
