Modi’s ₹2,500 Aid for Women Another ‘Jumla’: Atishi

-Abdul Bari Masoud
New Delhi: AAP slammed PM Modi and the Delhi BJP for failing to deliver the promised ₹2,500 monthly aid to women, calling it another ‘jumla’ (hollow promise).
Atishi, opposition leader, criticized the BJP for forming a committee instead of transferring the money, calling it a betrayal. She challenged the BJP to at least fulfill its second promise—free gas cylinders for Holi.
“PM Modi assured women ₹2,500 in their bank accounts by March 8. He even asked them to link phone numbers, promising an SMS confirmation,” she said.
On March 8, BJP held a cabinet meeting but didn’t discuss disbursing funds. The government hasn’t decided eligibility, started registration, or even launched a website.
Atishi revealed a four-member committee was formed instead. “Whenever the government wants to bury an issue, it forms a committee. BJP has shelved the ₹2,500 scheme,” she stated.
She questioned if Modi knowingly deceived Delhi women with an unfeasible promise.
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj stressed that when Modi makes a promise, people trust him. “He said ₹2,500 would reach accounts before March 8. But March 8 is gone, and no woman has received a rupee.”
He reminded of Modi’s past unfulfilled promises—₹15 lakh per citizen, 2 crore jobs yearly, and housing for all by 2022. “Now, history repeats,” he said.
Haryana AAP President Sushil Gupta also criticized BJP for backtracking.
