Mohammed Azharuddin Takes Charge as Telangana’s Minorities Welfare Minister

Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin formally assumed charge as Telangana’s Minister for Minorities Welfare and Public Enterprises at the State Secretariat on Monday. The ceremony was attended by his family members, senior ministers, and Muslim clerics who offered prayers for his success.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other cabinet colleagues congratulated Azharuddin on the occasion. He was inducted into the cabinet on October 31 and received his portfolios on November 4. His appointment is seen as a recognition of his growing political stature within the state and his connection with the minority community.

Azharuddin’s inclusion in the cabinet reflects the government’s intent to strengthen its engagement with Telangana’s diverse social and religious communities. As Minister for Minorities Welfare, he will oversee policies related to education, employment, and empowerment programs for Muslim and other minority groups in the state.

A popular figure in both sports and public life, Azharuddin’s political career began after his retirement from international cricket. His leadership experience and outreach among youth and community groups are expected to shape his approach to governance.

His assumption of charge was marked by simplicity and prayers, symbolising community expectations for inclusive development and transparency in public affairs.
