Malegaon: A video from Malegaon has sparked debate after it showed a voter ID card with the image of Marvel’s fictional villain Thanos. The card carried the name Mohammad Ibrahim, but the photo was of the Hollywood character, leading to widespread criticism of errors in the electoral rolls.
Former Malegaon MLA Asif Shaikh Rashid alleged large-scale irregularities in the voter list of his constituency. According to him, over 6,000 voters were registered without addresses, 3,502 cards contained tampered photos, and 11,298 double entries were detected. The bizarre Thanos card, which displayed a wrong age and incomplete address, highlighted the scale of the problem.
The video has gone viral across social media, with many mocking the system while others expressed concern over the credibility of the electoral process. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi shared the video on his Instagram story with the caption, “New voter unlocked for BJP,” reigniting political tensions.
Congress has accused the BJP of manipulating voter rolls to gain electoral advantage. Gandhi has alleged multiple discrepancies, including duplicate entries and bulk registrations, across several constituencies. The Election Commission has rejected these charges, calling them baseless, and demanded a formal affidavit or apology from the Congress leader.
Despite the EC’s dismissal, the Congress has intensified its campaign by highlighting what it calls “vote theft.” It has also launched a series of “Voter Adhikar Yatra” rallies in Bihar to draw attention to the issue.
