Moradabad: A notice issued by the Moradabad Development Authority has placed Mustafa Mosque under scrutiny, with authorities seeking construction documents and approved map details following a formal complaint.
The mosque, situated opposite Teerthanker Mahaveer University on Delhi Road, covers approximately 300 square metres. The Moradabad Development Authority (MDA) sent the notice after receiving a complaint alleging that the construction map had not received proper approval. The notice also cites concerns related to road and traffic conditions in the surrounding area.
MDA Vice-Chancellor Anubhav Singh confirmed that the authority received a complaint about the mosque’s construction approval status. “Consequently, a notice was issued seeking relevant documents,” Singh said. He added that the authority is currently examining the documents and that no further action has been decided. Any action, he said, would be taken according to the rules after the investigation is completed.
The mosque’s Imam, Mohammad Shan Azhari, firmly disputed any suggestion that the structure was newly built. He stated that the mosque is decades old and that prayers have been offered there regularly since the time of his ancestors. Azhari also rejected claims that the mosque obstructs traffic on Delhi Road.
Azhari confirmed that the mosque management would respond to the MDA notice within the framework of the law. The mosque’s Mutawalli (manager) Zeeshan, his son Farid Jabbar, and the management committee intend to pursue legal action in the matter.
The MDA notice does not establish that the mosque was constructed without approval. The authority has stated it will determine its next course of action only after a thorough review of the submitted documents and the completion of its investigation.
