‘Morality is Freedom’ Campaign: JIH West Bengal Women’s Wing Hosts Round Table Discussion with Intellectuals

Kolkata: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind West Bengal Women’s Wing organized a round table discussion at the Academy of Fine Arts here Monday. This event was part of the ongoing countrywide monthlong campaign, ‘Morality is Freedom’ in the month of September.

More than 100 intellectual ladies were present in the program. They included 14 women speakers from different sectors of society – doctors, academicians, NGOs representatives, teachers and lawyers.

Academician Dr Usha Mallick, Associate Professor, Nursing Department, Aliah University, Kolkata; Mrs Shubha Das Mollick, Retd. Head, Media Science, St Xavier’s College, Kolkata; and Nikhat Farooqui, Principal Genius National School highlighted the importance of moral values in education. They also discussed how can a teacher be a role model for students and fostering moral values in young age is very important.

Advocate Mariya Islam and Advocate Sara Khatoon emphasized that law and morality cannot be separated from each other. Law and morality are complementary to each other. Law enforcing agencies should be based on justice and kindness. Law is to provide justice to society. The ultimate aim of law is to get justice; those who are involved in this procedure must follow some morality.

NGO representatives Mrs Mahi Zubair from Apna Adhikar, Tasnim Anjum, Shabuhi Aziz and Qamar Jahan from All Bengal Muslim Women Association also shared their views in this discussion.

MBBS doctor Atia Rahman highlighted the women’s safety at workplaces. Dr Reshma Khatoon, Associate Professor, Education Department, Aliah University; Mrs Arshia Ahmed, an entrepreneur, any many other guests participated and enlightened the program with their views.

Earlier, Mahfuja Khatoon, Organizer, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Kolkata Women’s Wing, delivered the introductory speech. Amna Aslam extended a vote of thanks. Dr Saba Taj, PR Secretary, JIH West Bengal, Women Department compered the program.
