Chhatarpur: Tension gripped Imaliya village in Chhatarpur district after unidentified miscreants set fire to a local mosque late Thursday night. The arson took place under the jurisdiction of Harpalpur police station and came to light early Friday when the mosque’s imam arrived for morning prayers and discovered the damage.
Religious books and several items inside the mosque were found burnt. Villagers soon gathered at the site and alerted the authorities. No injuries or casualties were reported. A large police team was deployed in the area to prevent any escalation.
According to Superintendent of Police Agam Jain, six people have been booked in connection with the incident, and two key accused have been arrested. The arrested individuals, identified as Harsh Pateriya and Manoj Pateriya, were apprehended from Mahoba district in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Others suspected of involvement have been detained for questioning.
The police have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for attempting to disturb communal harmony. The authorities have also increased surveillance in the area to prevent further unrest and maintain peace among residents.
Local Muslim leaders have urged for calm and demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the incident. The community has called for swift justice to ensure such acts are not repeated.
