Hyderabad: Unidentified miscreants desecrated a mosque and damaged a minaret of an Eidgah in Telangana’s Nizamabad and Jagtial districts.
A minaret of an Eidgah was damaged in Varshakonda village of Ibrahimpatnam Mandal in Jagtial district on Saturday. Local people noticed the damage to the minaret on Saturday evening and lodged a complaint with the police.
The local leaders of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) informed the party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. Later, the AIMIM leaders of the district met with police officials and demanded that action be taken against those involved.
Police officials gave an assurance that a case would be registered and the guilty would be brought to book.
This incident came hours after the desecration of a mosque at Nagaram on the outskirts of Nizamabad town. Unidentified miscreants broke into the mosque on Friday night, desecrated the Holy Quran and vandalised the mike set.
The incident at Masjid-e-Kareem evoked strong reaction from the Muslim community. Local AIMIM leaders informed party president and AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala, who is party in-charge for the district.
Asaduddin Owaisi spoke to in-charge police commissioner of Nizamabad, Sindhu Sharma and demanded that police take strong action against those involved in desecration of the mosque. AIMIM leaders of Nizamabad lodged a written complaint with the police and sought immediate action against the culprits.
Leaders of the Congress party condemned the incident and demanded that police intensify the patrolling in the sensitive area. They appealed to people to maintain peace and cooperate with the police.
The incidents in Jagtial and Nizamabad districts are the latest in a series of such acts by the miscreants.
Muslim organisations have voiced concern over the growing activities of communal forces in the state and demanded the Congress government to deal firmly with them.
