In recent days, several mosques in India have been targeted, including those in Palampur, Kullu, and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, as well as Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Rajasthan.
On Friday, local Muslims in Prayagraj were shocked to discover that their mosque in the Railway Colony had been demolished when they arrived for Friday prayers. Copies of the Quran were desecrated, and worshippers were forced to perform their Friday prayers on the ruins of the demolished mosque.
The mosque, situated around 150 meters from Prayagraj Railway Station, was razed by local authorities without any prior notice or adherence to legal procedures, according to local sources.
One netizen reported that eyewitnesses claimed no respect was shown to the copies of the Holy Quran kept inside the mosque, which were desecrated during the demolition.
Journalist Wasim Akram Tyagi shared a video on X, stating: “In Allahabad, UP, the local administration demolished a centuries-old mosque near the railway colony without giving any notice. The religious books inside were also badly desecrated.”
He questioned the government, asking: “@UPGovt, has this happened on your orders?”
While speaking to Radiance, Tyagi further said: “In Bhilwara, Rajasthan, anarchist elements have conspired to spoil the atmosphere. On the occasion of Jahazpur Ekadashi, a procession, while returning from the fort, stopped outside the mosque, raised slogans again, and riots erupted. A large number of Muslim-owned shops were looted, and some were set on fire shops that pay rent to the municipality.”
Tyagi added: @indSupremeCourt, are you witnessing the antics of the @BhajanlalBjp government?”
In another viral video, a group of people arrived at one of the oldest mosques, declaring it illegal.
Meanwhile, in Lucknow, mosques continue to be targeted. Members of Hindutva organizations gathered at a four-decade-old mosque in Nishatganj, Lucknow, to declare it illegal. One protester even held a placard reading “Islamic hooliganism.” However, the police soon arrived and dispersed the group.
