Malda Dakshin MP Isha Khan Choudhury has written to BSF Director General Shri Daljit Singh Chaudhary demanding the immediate return of Amir Sk., a citizen of Jalalpur village, West Bengal. Amir was allegedly pushed into Bangladesh by BSF on July 22, 2025.
Amir Sk., a daily wage worker, had earlier spent two months in a jail in Rajasthan. He was later handed over to BSF in West Bengal. Instead of being released or taken to court, Amir was reportedly forced across the India-Bangladesh border.
He is now stranded in Bangladesh. For several days, Amir has been trying to prove his Indian identity. He carries valid documents including his Aadhaar card and birth certificate.
MP Choudhury called this act a “grave miscarriage of justice.” He said, “His official documents prove he is an Indian. I urge the Indian government to bring him back immediately and stop such actions in the future.”
Choudhury raised concerns over a pattern of wrongful arrests of Bengali-speaking Indians across states like Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Maharashtra. He reminded that Article 19(1) of the Constitution guarantees all Indians the right to movement and livelihood.
He also mentioned a personal visit to a detention centre in Gurugram, Haryana. There, he found over 150 people from Bengal and Assam held without proper reason.
Choudhury referred to his uncle, late A.B.A. Ghani Khan Choudhury, a former Railway Minister, while urging justice for people facing wrongful detention or statelessness.
This case has worried civil rights groups. Some activists are demanding an independent probe into the BSF and police actions involving migrants and minorities.
The BSF has not responded yet. Pressure is growing on the Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate and ensure no Indian citizen is wrongfully deported or denied their rights.
