MP Police Parade Cow Slaughter Accused, Force Slogans in Ujjain

In Ghattia, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh Police paraded two Muslim men accused of cow slaughter, allegedly beating them and forcing slogans. The incident on Monday sparked outrage over police conduct.
The accused, Salim Mewati and Aaqib Mewati, were forced to chant, “Gau hamari mata hai, police hamare pita hai,” as police marched them through the streets. Viral videos show officers hitting them with batons and instructing them to chant.
Ujjain ASP Nitesh Bhargav said police acted on a tip-off on March 16, seizing a vehicle, mobile phones, and cow meat. Two men were arrested; a third is on the run. Salim has 24 cases, Aaqib has four.
Eyewitnesses called the parade public humiliation. Police defended it as a crime deterrent, but activists condemned it as a rights violation. A senior officer said the conduct of involved officers is under probe. The accused remain in custody, with no FIR against police.
