Had the Constitution been implemented effectively, India would have surpassed the United States today.
Mumbai: The Movement for Peace and Justice (MPJ) Maharashtra concluded its ambitious campaign, ‘Constitution for All-2024’, with a grand ceremony aimed at spreading awareness about the Indian Constitution and encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to embrace its principles in their daily lives.
The closing event witnessed the participation of renowned personalities from various fields, including constitutional experts, academicians, and social activists. Key speakers at the event included Dr. Ram Puniyani, Prof. (Dr.) Prabha Teermare, Shri Suresh Sawant, and Ms. Jaya Bansode, who emphasised the values of equality, justice, and fraternity. The speakers underlined the importance of understanding and implementing provisions of the Constitution.
The ceremony also featured a vibrant cultural programme that highlighted constitutional values through art and culture, fostering a sense of harmony and awareness among the attendees.
In his address, Dr. Puniyani stated that equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity are interdependent values. He remarked, “Without fraternity, equality and justice remain mere words.”
Social activist Jaya Bansode stressed that effective implementation of the Constitution could have positioned India ahead of the United States today. She urged citizens to adhere to constitutional principles.
Constitutional educator Aamir Qazi referenced the Charter of Medina established by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, describing it as the first written guarantee of equality, justice, liberty, and fraternity among citizens.
Prof. Prabha Teermare highlighted the role of civil society in promoting fraternity, while constitutional expert Suresh Sawant called for citizens from diverse religions, castes, and cultures to respect the Constitution and adopt its principles to ensure dignified living for all.
MPJ Maharashtra President Mohammad Siraj emphasised the need to understand and implement the Preamble of the Constitution. He stated, “Without fraternity, the concepts of equality and justice are unimaginable.”
The two-month-long campaign marked a significant milestone in promoting constitutional values across Maharashtra. Through debates, seminars, and cultural programmes, the initiative not only educated citizens but also fostered societal harmony and unity.
MPJ’s efforts have been a remarkable step in making the Constitution accessible to everyone and inspiring people to integrate its principles into their lives.
