New Delhi: The Muslim Students Organisation (MSO) hosted a conference titled “AMU’s Role in Nation-Building” at the India International Centre here. Distinguished guests included Jamia Hamdard University Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Afshar Alam and former Mauritius NSA Shanto Mukherjee. Other speakers included Professor Mohibul Haq from AMU’s Department of Political Science and Rashtriya Sahara Group Editor Abdul Majid Nizami.
Speakers reflected on AMU’s significant contributions to India’s progress. Professor Afshar Alam highlighted that AMU has produced notable personalities who brought global recognition to India across education, science, politics, social work, and sports. Shanto Mukherjee emphasised AMU’s impact on literature and cinema, with alumni like Saeed Jaffrey, Javed Akhtar, and Naseeruddin Shah making notable contributions to film, and sports figures like Major Dhyan Chand and Lala Amarnath representing AMU in athletics. He underscored AMU’s commitment to secularism and communal harmony.
Professor Mohibul Haq stressed the importance of AMU reconnecting with its history to continue producing leaders who serve society. Abdul Majid Nizami emphasised the duty of AMU’s current and former students to uphold Sir Syed’s vision and mission, while also addressing issues of gender justice. MSO Chairman Dr. Shujaat Ali Qadri discussed the organisation’s history and its social service contributions.
The event concluded with a presentation of mementos to the guests.
