Mumbai Student Excels in Studies and Swordplay, Wins 32 Medals

Mumbai – An 18-year-old student from Kharghar, Nashrah Shahjahan Syed, has achieved remarkable success by excelling both in academics and in the art of swordplay. Over the past seven years, she has bagged a total of 32 medals at national, state, DSO, and inter-school fencing competitions – including 7 gold, 15 silver, and 10 bronze medals, as per a report by the Inquilab.

Born in Kuwait on May 13, 2007, Nashrah completed her primary education there before moving to Navi Mumbai, where she continued her schooling at Empyrean High School and Junior College under the CBSE board. She passed her Class 10 and 12 exams with 90% and 85% respectively. Driven by her ambition to become a doctor, she is set to travel to Cairo, Egypt, on September 23 to pursue MBBS studies.

Speaking about her decision, Nashrah said, “I have always been fascinated by new experiences. After completing my secondary and higher secondary studies in Navi Mumbai, I chose Egypt because I wanted to explore its culture, civilization, and way of life. Though it’s not easy to move abroad alone, I am determined to chase my dream and return as a doctor.”

Her journey into fencing began in 2018 when she joined Class 6 at Empyrean High School, where fencing training had just been introduced. Captivated by the sport, she quickly enrolled and later trained with a private academy as well. “Fencing fascinated me from the start. It not only gave me medals but also taught me discipline, focus, and leadership,” she explained.

Nashrah also shared that alongside her studies and fencing achievements, she memorized the 30th Juz (chapter) of the Qur’an during her stay in Kuwait, with plans to continue memorizing other chapters. She expressed her long-term vision, stating, “My dream is not only to become a skilled doctor but also to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Fencing will always remain close to my heart.”
