New Delhi: The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (Registered) has strongly condemned what it described as the intensifying politics of hatred in BJP-ruled states and alleged attempts to deprive Muslims of citizenship under the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The organisation also expressed concern over the continued demolition of mosques and shrines, describing it as a systematic effort to erase the religious and cultural identity of Muslims.
Several important resolutions were passed at the General Body meeting held today at New Horizon School in New Delhi, attended by Mushawarat members from different parts of the country. The meeting warned that if the atmosphere of hatred continues and fundamental public issues remain neglected, it would seriously damage the country’s unity and communal harmony.
The meeting was chaired by former Member of Parliament Mohammad Adeeb. Among those present were Mushawarat President Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, Dr. Syed Farooq, Prof. Mohammad Suleiman, Kamal Farooqui, Mufti Ataur Rahman Qasmi and several other prominent personalities. The proceedings were conducted by General Secretary Masoom Moradabadi.
The resolutions adopted at the meeting stated that while hate politics has existed in the country for a long time, it has increased dramatically over the past 12 years. Mob lynching and hate crimes, the resolution said, have become increasingly common. In these circumstances, Mushawarat advised Muslims to face these challenges with patience and wisdom and not allow mischief-makers an opportunity to provoke communal violence. It also urged Muslims to strengthen their ties with non-Muslim fellow citizens as a means of countering the spread of hatred.
A resolution also strongly criticised the encounter policy of the Uttar Pradesh government, alleging that a majority of such actions have disproportionately targeted Muslims.
Another resolution took note of the growing unrest among the youth due to the policies of the current government. It stated that people have become frustrated with corruption, deception, inflation, economic hardship, unemployment, divisive politics and alleged vote manipulation. The resolution said that the recently launched movement under the name ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ reflects public dissatisfaction, and Mushawarat expressed its support for it.
The organisation described the SIR of voter lists as a systematic attempt to disenfranchise Muslims, arguing that it would directly affect their civic rights. According to the resolution, evidence of this was seen during recent elections in West Bengal, where, it claimed, millions of Muslims were deprived of their voting rights. The resolution urged all Muslims and local organisations affected by the SIR process to file complaints before tribunals and make every effort to have their names restored to the electoral rolls.
In a resolution on international affairs, Mushawarat strongly condemned what it described as Israeli and American aggression against Iran. It stated that Israeli military actions in Gaza and southern Lebanon despite ceasefire agreements are aimed at advancing the concept of a ‘Greater Israel’. The organisation also appealed to Arab countries to completely reject the Abraham Accords, arguing that they would further strengthen Israeli dominance in the region.
The resolution also criticised the Government of India’s perceived pro-Israel policy, stating that it contradicts India’s long-standing non-aligned foreign policy tradition and its historic support for the Palestinian cause.
Other notable participants in the General Body meeting included Treasurer Shamsuz Zoha, Advocate Feroz Ahmad Ghazi, Maulana Abrar Ahmad Makki, Mohammad Wazir Ansari, Khalid Mohammad Khan (Bhopal), Hafiz Manzoor Ali Khan (Jaipur), Dr. Ubaid Iqbal Asim (Aligarh), Dr. Hamid Hussain (Odisha), Shahid Sheikh (Mumbai), Advocate Wasi Ahmad (Bareilly), Kausar Usman (Lucknow), Prof. Abdul Qayyum Ansari, Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, Shabeeh Ahmad, Khalid Ahmad Khan, Prof. Abbas Ali Mehdi and S.M. Noorullah.
Participants who joined the meeting through Zoom included Syed Tahseen Ahmad, Suhail Anjum, Shahid Sharif (Mumbai), Ikhlaq Hussain Chishti (Kanpur), Shahid Saleem (Jammu) and Group Captain M. Noor (Gurugram).
