New Delhi: The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (Regd.) has thanked opposition parties, especially the INDIA alliance and Congress MPs, for firmly opposing the controversial Waqf Bill. The organization said that by voting unitedly against the Bill, they proved India’s conscience is alive, its secular spirit remains intact, and the future of minorities is still secure. It also announced plans to challenge the Bill in the Supreme Court.
Mushawarat President Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan launched a sharp attack on the ruling party, accusing it of waging a war against Muslim Personal Law, mosques, and madrasas.
“We hope the political atmosphere will soon shift, and this oppressive Waqf Bill will be thrown into the dustbin of history,” said Dr. Khan in a statement.
He confirmed that the Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat will soon approach the Supreme Court against the Bill.
Dr. Khan said the Bill is a tactic to grab Muslim properties endowed over centuries. “It’s difficult to prove ownership of old properties, especially religious ones. But surprisingly, other religions have different laws. Their trusts don’t include outsiders, no papers are demanded for ancient religious structures, their temples aren’t excavated, and collectors aren’t given the final authority on ownership,” he said.
He added that this Bill was brought by a party that has sidelined Muslims, has no Muslim minister, MP, or MLA, and has consistently attacked Muslim laws, institutions, and identity.
Dr. Khan further said the same party’s affiliated mobs have lynched hundreds of Muslims in the last eleven years and bulldozed many homes illegally.
“We don’t expect justice from this government. But we believe this era of hate-driven politics will eventually end,” he concluded.
