Muslim Boycott Campaign in Dombivli Sparks Communal Tensions

Dombivli, Maharashtra: The Muslim community in New Govandiwadi, Dombivli, is facing a targeted boycott campaign by right wing activists, following the arrest of five Muslim boys, four of whom are minors. The boys were accused of pelting stones at an RSS shakha, but they denied the charges, explaining that they were merely aiming at a bird. Despite their innocence, right wing activists mobilized a legal team to prevent their release.
In a deeply concerning development, these right wing members organized a corner meeting on Saturday night, where they called for an economic boycott of Muslim shopkeepers, street vendors, and rickshaw drivers. This move has alarmed the Muslim community, which is already grappling with growing marginalization.
Local social activist Yusuf Memon strongly criticized the police’s biased approach, alleging that law enforcement acted unilaterally against Muslim youth while ignoring the right wing deliberate provocations. He pointed out that RSS cadres have been conducting lathi-training sessions near Muslim-majority areas to create tensions. Moreover, during the court hearing, Bajrang Dal lawyers harassed Muslim supporters and even recorded videos illegally.
