Muslim Cattle Trader Assaulted by Alleged Bajrang Dal Members in Karnataka’s Vijayapura District

7 May 2024: In a disturbing incident of communal violence, a Muslim cattle trader was viciously attacked by a group of individuals believed to be affiliated with the Hindutva organization, Bajrang Dal, in Babaleshwar Taluk of Karnataka’s Vijayapura district.

The victim, identified as Bande Nawaz, was transporting two bulls, a buffalo calf, and a cow from Babaleshwar to Vijayapura when his vehicle was intercepted by the assailants. Reports suggest that the attackers were associated with Bajrang Dal leaders Viresh Hiremath and Raju Biradara.

Upon stopping Nawaz’s vehicle, the perpetrators discovered the cattle inside and proceeded to assault him mercilessly, resulting in severe injuries and profuse bleeding.

A viral video capturing the aftermath of the attack shows Nawaz receiving medical treatment at a district hospital, his body bearing evident signs of trauma and bloodstains.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding swift and stringent action against the perpetrators, reported to number between 15 to 20 individuals.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, with a case filed at the Babaleshwar police station regarding the assault. As the investigation progresses, concerns about the safety and security of minority communities in the region continue to escalate.
