Gwalior: A Muslim woman police officer, DSP Hina Khan, showed remarkable composure and presence of mind after a group of lawyers accused her of being “anti-Sanatan” and tried to provoke her by forcing her to chant “Jai Shri Ram.” Instead of reacting with anger, Khan calmly raised the same slogan herself, diffusing tensions on the spot.
The incident occurred when DSP Khan arrived to stop an unauthorized religious gathering near a temple in Gwalior. The event was organized by a group of lawyers, including former Gwalior Bar Association president Anil Mishra, under the pretext of celebrating Mishra’s birthday through a “Sundarkand” recital and community feast. Authorities had earlier prohibited all public gatherings due to rising tensions between Scheduled Caste and upper-caste groups following Mishra’s controversial comments about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
When DSP Hina Khan intervened to enforce the restrictions, some lawyers began shouting slogans and accused her of being “anti-Sanatan.” In response, she stepped forward and chanted “Jai Shri Ram” herself, leaving the crowd speechless. Her quick thinking helped prevent the situation from escalating into a communal clash.
Following the incident, the police maintained order and dispersed the gathering peacefully. An internal inquiry is underway into the actions of the protesting lawyers who defied administrative orders.
