Hapur: A Muslim family in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, was brutally attacked by a mob late on Friday night, leaving three men critically injured and women harassed. The family, including Sajid and his brother Zahid from Machhina village, was returning home when a dozen assailants armed with iron rods and bricks stopped their car, vandalised it, and assaulted them.
Villager Shahzad attempted to intervene but was severely beaten. Police confirmed four arrests: Nishant, Chhotu alias Hathud, Shiva, and Mohit Tomar, while the search for the remaining attackers continues. Authorities assured that no accused will escape justice.
The incident has sparked anger within the local Muslim community. Representatives from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind met police and demanded immediate action, calling the assault an attack on the dignity of Muslims. Maulana Rashid emphasised that women were targeted in full view, urging the administration to act firmly.
The delegation also requested enhanced protection for minority families traveling at night, highlighting fears created by repeated mob attacks. Senior Jamiat member Abdul Wahid appealed for calm, stressing that justice must be sought through legal channels rather than violence.
Inspector Pateesh Kumar assured residents of a strict and impartial investigation. Muslim leaders warned that such attacks reflect a growing pattern of violence against minorities in the region and stressed the need for accountability to restore community confidence.
As the victims recover, the incident raises concerns about the safety of Muslim families and their right to move freely without fear of harassment or attack.
