Nizamabad (Telangana): A Muslim family was brutally attacked by a mob reportedly affiliated with the far-right Hindutva group Bajrang Dal in Sirnapally village of Nizamabad district, Telangana. The assault took place on Sunday evening, a day after Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), when the family had reunited for the festival.
According to local reports, a group of nearly 50 to 60 men, many wielding swords and dressed in saffron attire, stormed the residence of Ahmed Ullah Khan. They launched a violent assault on the family, seriously injuring Khan, his wife Rizwana Begum, and their two sons — Mohammed Majid Khan and Aman Khan. The mob also reportedly attacked Majid’s sister and her family, including minor children, reported the Siasat.
The injured victims were admitted to the Nizamabad Government Hospital, with several sustaining head injuries and trauma. Rizwana Begum’s clothes were reportedly torn during the assault, raising further concerns of sexualized violence.
Speaking to Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjedullah Khan, Majid Khan revealed that the attack followed a previous incident in which he had been falsely implicated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The village development committee had then passed a resolution ostracizing Majid and his brother from the village, permitting only their elderly parents to remain. Since then, the brothers had moved to Kamareddy for work as painters and had returned home for the festival.
It was during this visit that the horrific assault occurred around 8 PM, leaving the family battered and traumatized. Majid specifically named Bajrang Dal members as the perpetrators during his call with Amjedullah Khan.
Reacting to the incident, Amjedullah Khan condemned the brutal assault and accused the Telangana police of being complicit through inaction. “Law and order in the state have collapsed. The police are silent spectators while minorities are being targeted and attacked,” he stated. He demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and questioned the lack of protection for vulnerable communities.
The incident has once again brought into focus the rising threats of communal violence and vigilantism in the name of nationalism. Activists and civil rights groups have called for a high-level investigation and stringent action against those responsible.
