New Delhi: Muslim organisations have condemned reported attacks, intimidation, and disruptions faced by members of the Christian community during Christmas celebrations across several states. The incidents raised concern over safety, religious freedom, and public order during a major religious festival.
Reports cited disruptions in Chhattisgarh, Assam, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and other regions. In Raipur, a large mob vandalised Christmas decorations at a shopping mall. In Indore, a group disrupted celebrations and damaged festive displays. In Assam’s Nalbari district, police arrested four persons linked to Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal after damage to Christmas decorations at a school.
Jamaat e Islami Hind president Syed Sadatullah Husaini expressed concern over repeated reports involving members of the Christian community. He urged authorities to take timely steps to ensure peace, safety, and communal harmony during the festive period. In a press statement, he said reports of attacks and intimidation risk creating fear and mistrust within society.
Husaini referred to constitutional values rooted in equality and freedom of religion. He said Jamaat e Islami Hind stands in solidarity with the Christian community. He also noted documentation by civil society groups regarding disrupted prayer meetings, burial related disputes, and cases under anti conversion laws. He stressed lawful processes and impartial institutional action.
Husaini said religious festivals demand heightened administrative preparedness. He urged authorities to ensure Christmas observances proceed without fear or disruption. He described festivals as occasions for worship and goodwill requiring protection by the state.
