Ahmedabad: A video from Ahmedabad’s Naroda area has triggered debate over housing discrimination after a Muslim migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly pressured to leave his rented accommodation in a predominantly Hindu locality.
The footage, widely shared on social media, shows a man identified as Ganesh Vanzara, described in reports as a Bajrang Dal member, confronting the worker along with several associates. During the exchange, the migrant worker is allegedly instructed to vacate the area and move to a neighbourhood where Muslims reside.
According to posts accompanying the video, the worker was referred to as “Ali Khamenei’s nephew” before being told to leave the locality. The confrontation reportedly took place in public and attracted attention online after the video circulated widely.
The incident sparked strong reactions from social media users, activists, and public figures. Many questioned how a citizen could be asked to leave rented accommodation because of religious identity. Others expressed concern about what they described as growing challenges faced by Muslims seeking housing in urban areas.
