Five Muslim MLAs Win Hindu Majority Seats in Bihar, Reflecting Complex Voting Patterns

New Delhi: The Bihar assembly results produced an unexpected trend. Five Muslim candidates secured victories from constituencies where Hindus form the majority. The outcome highlights the weight of local issues and leadership over assumptions about communal voting patterns. Nitish Kumar has taken oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time, and the NDA has returned to power with a strong majority. The wins of these five Muslim legislators stand out in a tightly contested election.

In Chainpur, JDU candidate Mohammad Jama Khan defeated RJD’s Briz Kishore Bind. The constituency has around 10 percent Muslim population. Khan’s win shows the impact of candidate performance and party influence at the ground level.

In Dhaka, RJD’s Faisal Rahman won by 178 votes against BJP’s Pawan Kumar Jaiswal. Muslims form 32 percent of the electorate. The narrow margin reflects the close contest and also shows how minority voters shape the outcome in mixed constituencies.

In Bisfi, RJD’s Asif Ahmed defeated BJP’s Haribhushan Thakur. Muslims form around 40 percent of the population. The result continues the area’s trend of alternating choices based on local factors.

In Raghunathpur, Osama Sahib won on an RJD ticket. The seat has 17 percent Muslim population. The constituency is linked to the legacy of Mohammad Shahabuddin. Support for Sahib shows how political networks and local loyalty influence voters.

In Araria, Congress leader Abd ur Rahman secured another victory. Muslims form 32 percent of the voters. Rahman won by over 12,000 votes and continues to hold the seat since 2015.

The results show that voter choices in Bihar are shaped by local issues, candidate credibility, and long standing political alliances.
