Jabalpur: Amid growing tensions over the Madai Masjid, Muslim organizations have submitted a memorandum to the police, urging them to respect the legal process and prevent any disruption of peace. The move follows protests by Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, who claim that the mosque was constructed on an illegally occupied land. The protests, held near the Ranjhi police station, were met with police intervention to prevent further escalation.
Muslim leaders emphasized that the mosque issue is currently being adjudicated in court, and any premature actions could disturb the city’s harmony. They called for calm and adherence to the law, urging the police to ensure that communal tensions do not spiral out of control.
“We have submitted a memorandum, requesting that the dispute regarding the Madai Masjid, which started on September 26, be handled within the legal framework. We believe some groups are trying to disrupt the city’s peace,” said Muslim activist Magan Siddiqui.
Siddiqui, who is also a member of BJP, underscored the need for all parties to await the judiciary’s decision. He added, “Legal action should be taken against anyone attempting to incite violence. The law is supreme, and we should all wait for the court’s verdict.”
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Suryakant Sharma acknowledged the submission of the memorandum and confirmed that the matter is under investigation. “The court will decide, and we will act accordingly. Both parties have been assured that the police will respect the legal process,” Sharma said.
While some fear that the protests could lead to communal clashes, Siddiqui expressed confidence that the government does not support such actions. “There are always individuals with extreme views, but the majority want peace. We just want justice, and we trust the judiciary to deliver it,” he stated. The Muslim community hopes that the authorities will maintain peace and order while the court addresses the mosque dispute.
