Patna: The 2025 Bihar Assembly will include 11 Muslim MLAs. This is a decline from 19 in 2020 and 24 in 2015. The latest results released on Friday highlight a continued fall in Muslim representation across the state’s political landscape.
AIMIM fielded the highest number of Muslim candidates with 23 contenders. Five of them secured seats. The party showed a stronger performance compared to many others, although it faced a narrow loss in Balrampur where its candidate Advocate Adil Hasan lost to the BJP by 389 votes.
RJD fielded 18 Muslim candidates and won 3 seats. Congress gave tickets to 10 Muslim candidates and won 2 seats. JD(U) nominated 4 Muslims and secured 1 seat. CPI(M) had 2 Muslim candidates who finished without victories. BSP, JSP and LJP (Ram Vilas Paswan) fielded Muslim candidates who also finished without wins. BJP did not nominate any Muslim candidates.
The full list of 11 elected Muslim MLAs includes Md. Zama Khan from JD(U), three from RJD, two from Congress and five from AIMIM. Their presence marks one of the lowest Muslim tallies in recent decades.
The overall poll turnout for the two-phase election reached 66.91 percent. This is the highest since Bihar’s first assembly election in 1951. The NDA secured 202 seats. BJP won 89 seats, emerging as the single largest party in Bihar for the first time. JD(U) followed with 85 seats. LJP won 19 seats. The RJD-led INDIA bloc won 35 seats including 25 for RJD and 6 for Congress. AIMIM finished with 5 seats.
The results reflect a shifting political landscape in Bihar and a sharper decline in Muslim representation across major parties.
