Muslim Teacher Brutally Assaulted by Hindutva Groups in Delhi Over Fee Dispute

12 July 2024: Abrar, a Muslim tutor running the Joint Mentor of Discipline (JMD) coaching centre in Delhi’s Shakurpur, was violently attacked by supporters of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindutva groups following a disagreement over tuition fees with a parent.

According to Abrar’s brother Irfan, the altercation began on July 4 when a parent, unhappy with the fee arrangement, escalated the situation by involving members of the Tiger Group and VHP. These individuals allegedly assaulted Abrar, leading to severe injuries that required his hospitalization in the ICU. “My elder brother was brutally thrashed and had to be hospitalized in the ICU,” Irfan stated in a video appeal for help from the Bhim Army, claiming that the police ignored their complaints.

The violence has forced Abrar and his brother to seek refuge elsewhere due to ongoing threats. “They are sending their men to check whether we are at home or not. We request the Bhim Army to help us,” Irfan added.

Simultaneously, a parent whose sons attend the JMD coaching centre filed a complaint against Abrar, Irfan, and another individual named Rizwan, accusing them of coercing his children into reading the Qur’an and reciting Islamic Kalima. In response, the Subhash Place police registered an FIR against them under sections 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on July 7.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken note of the incident, issuing a notice on July 8 to the District Magistrate, demanding a detailed report within three days.
