Muslim Truck Driver Lynched by Kanwariyas in Uttar Pradesh as Police Stand By

Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh — In yet another chilling incident of mob violence against Muslims, a truck driver was beaten to death by a group of Kanwariyas during a religious procession in the Patan Devkali area along Badaun Road, under Shahjahanpur jurisdiction, reported the Clarion India.
The attack took place when the Kanwariyas stopped the victim’s truck after allegedly detecting a foul smell. Upon checking, they found animal skin inside the vehicle and, without any verification from authorities, violently assaulted the driver. The mob also set the truck ablaze.
Disturbingly, eyewitness videos circulating on social media show police officers standing just metres away as the driver was lynched, making no attempt to intervene. Local residents say this inaction directly contributed to the victim’s death. “Had the police acted promptly, his life could have been saved,” said one eyewitness.
Community leaders and human rights activists have strongly condemned both the killing and the police’s passive role, warning that such impunity emboldens mobs to continue targeting Muslims under false or unverified suspicions.
This is not an isolated incident. Over recent years, Kanwar Yatra processions across India have seen repeated episodes of mob attacks, lynchings, and threats to Muslim shopkeepers and vendors, often with little to no accountability for perpetrators. Many victims are singled out simply due to their religion, identifiable by names or appearance.
The incident adds to the growing list of hate crimes in India, highlighting a disturbing trend where the right to life and safety for Muslims is increasingly under threat while law enforcement remains complicit through silence or inaction.
