6 June 2024: A day after the 2024 Lok Sabha election results, in which the INDIA bloc delivered a strong performance, a large number of Muslim women assembled outside the Uttar Pradesh Congress headquarters in Lucknow. They were there to demand the ‘Guarantee Card’ that the party had promised during the campaign, as reported by Aaj Tak on Wednesday.
These women, many of whom had already received the Congress guarantee card, submitted their details including name, address, and contact information at the party office. Some reported that they received a receipt from the Congress office upon submission of their filled-in guarantee cards.
During the election campaign, Congress had pledged financial assistance to women from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and other backward categories. Specifically, the party’s manifesto promised an annual transfer of Rs 1 lakh into the bank accounts of these women. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized this commitment, stating that the new government would ensure the financial empowerment of women from these communities.
In addition to financial assistance, Gandhi assured the provision of guaranteed apprenticeships to unemployed youth. He highlighted that the party’s manifesto included several revolutionary steps aimed at uplifting marginalized communities and supporting economically disadvantaged women.
The gathering of Muslim women at the Congress office underscores the expectations and hopes pinned on the party’s promises following the INDIA bloc’s commendable electoral performance.
