Fez: The Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Mohammed Al Issa, called for a unified global framework to regulate artificial intelligence, warning of risks linked to unregulated systems.
He delivered the remarks at the opening of an international conference titled “The Future of Human Civilization in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” in Morocco. The event drew over 2,000 participants from 75 countries. It was hosted by the Euro Mediterranean University of Fez and attended by global officials, academics, and experts, including the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations.
Al Issa said the discussion on artificial intelligence holds central importance in shaping the future of human civilisation. He traced the evolution of knowledge from the scientific transformations of the 16th and 17th centuries to the present phase driven by AI. He noted that modern systems now analyse data and generate ideas, moving beyond basic storage functions.
He pointed to the early contributions of Muslim scholars in establishing the experimental scientific method. He described the current AI phase as another turning point in human progress.
Al Issa stressed that AI development must align with shared human values. He warned that misuse in areas such as religion, race, and culture risks creating division and conflict. He called for clear ethical standards, stronger transparency, and firm accountability for companies developing such technologies.
He urged limits on AI use in high risk sectors, especially where critical decisions are involved. He said final authority must remain with humans. He added that AI systems rely entirely on data inputs and lack independent judgement or awareness.
