Lucknow: A 24 year old Muslim youth suffered serious injuries after a group of men allegedly assaulted him while he was returning home from a gym in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. The incident took place on the night of July 8 in the Hussain Ganj police station area.
The victim, Hafiz Mohammad Kaif, said he was approaching his home when around seven men surrounded him. According to his statement, the group abused him, used religious and caste based slurs, and assaulted him without any provocation.
Kaif said he attempted to escape by taking shelter inside a nearby house. He alleged that the attackers followed him into the house and continued the assault.
They attacked me with bricks and hit me using the metal bracelets on their wrists. My eye was badly bruised, and I needed eight stitches on my head, Kaif told the media.
In his complaint, Kaif stated that the assault left him with grievous injuries. Doctors treating him said his condition is stable.
Following the incident, an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen delegation led by the party’s Lucknow president, Mohammad Tabish Beg, met Kaif’s family. The delegation expressed solidarity with the family and assured them of legal support in their pursuit of justice.
Police have registered a First Information Report in the case. According to Kaif’s family, no arrests had been made at the time of the report. The family appealed to the police to conduct a fair investigation, arrest those responsible and ensure the safety of the victim and his relatives.
Police said the FIR names four accused, Aman, Gill, Kali and Manu, along with three unidentified persons. The case has been registered under provisions related to rioting and voluntarily causing hurt.
Station House Officer Shivmangal Singh said the case was registered on Friday based on Kaif’s complaint. He added that the named accused had been identified and the investigation is continuing.
