Maharajganj: A heartbreaking incident in Rajendranagar Ward exposed the harsh realities of poverty when two young boys were left alone with their father’s body for three days, unable to arrange his funeral. The father, 50-year-old Lov Kumar Patwa, who supported his children by selling bangles and small goods, passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness. His two sons, Rajveer, 14, and Devaraj, 10, were left helpless after neighbors failed to assist. Their mother had died a year earlier, and their grandmother, living nearby, also offered no help.
As the body began to decompose, the boys, overwhelmed by the stench and despair, decided to place their father’s body on a pushcart and immerse it in the nearby Danda river. On Sunday afternoon, as they moved through Chapwa Tiraha with the cart, they were noticed by Rashid Qureshi, a young social worker and ward councilor candidate from Bismilnagar. Shocked by their plight, he immediately stopped them and contacted his elder brother, Waris Qureshi, councilor of Rahul Nagar.
The two Muslim youths acted without hesitation. They arranged a vehicle, transported the body to the cremation ground, and ensured that the deceased received proper last rites with dignity.
The act of humanity by Rashid and Waris Qureshi has been widely praised. Their timely intervention not only ended the ordeal of two grieving children but also highlighted how Muslim youth are stepping up with compassion and responsibility in times of crisis.
