Muslim Youths Forced to Parade with Saffron Flags in Odisha, Police Launch Probe

Balasore: Tension gripped Odisha’s Balasore district after a group of Muslim youths were allegedly forced to carry saffron flags and chant religious slogans by members of a Hindutva outfit. The incident, reported on October 12, has drawn sharp condemnation from rights groups and opposition leaders.

Videos circulating on social media show the youths parading through the streets holding saffron flags under the supervision of local members of the outfit. Witnesses said the victims appeared frightened and were coerced into participating. Local residents claimed the act was meant to humiliate them and inflame communal tensions in the area.

Police confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. Officers said they are verifying the authenticity of the videos and identifying those involved. Authorities have assured that action will be taken against anyone found guilty of intimidation or forced participation.

Minority rights activists have called the act an attempt to instill fear among Muslims in the region. Opposition parties also criticised the administration for failing to prevent repeated provocations that threaten communal harmony.

The Balasore incident comes amid a series of communal flare-ups in eastern India in recent weeks. Several towns have reported property damage, hate slogans, and targeted intimidation. Local community leaders have urged restraint and demanded strong steps to ensure safety for all communities.
