Lucknow: Muslims across Uttar Pradesh observed Youm-e-Dua, a Day of Prayer, for the protection of Waqf properties and the success of the ongoing Supreme Court case challenging the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. The call for observance was given by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
Delivering the Friday sermon at Jama Masjid Eidgah, Lucknow, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali underlined the religious significance of Waqf. He reminded worshippers that the Quran and Islamic tradition recognize Waqf as a permanent charitable endowment. The Prophet of Islam, his companions, and later generations of Muslims dedicated properties in the name of Allah, forming the foundation of Waqf institutions.
Maulana Farangi Mahali stressed that the Indian Constitution guarantees religious freedom under Articles 25 and 26, including the right to manage places of worship and institutions. He said the AIMPLB had already submitted a detailed representation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee highlighting how several provisions of the new amendments undermine constitutional protections under Articles 14, 15, 16, 25, and 26.
He noted that while the matter is being heard in the Supreme Court, the interim order has provided limited relief. The community, he said, is hopeful that the final ruling will ensure full protection of Waqf rights.
Special prayers were offered in mosques across Uttar Pradesh and in other parts of the country following the Friday congregation, asking for divine help in securing justice.
