New Delhi, Sep 9: Professor Salim Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), emphasized the unchanging nature of the Dawah responsibilities for Muslims worldwide. He was addressing a public meeting held at the JIH headquarters here. The event, titled “Changing Scenario of the Country & Dawah Responsibilities of Muslims,” highlighted the importance of fulfilling Dawah duties regardless of the prevailing circumstances.
“Dawah is a fundamental responsibility of the Millat-i-Islamiya and the global Muslim community. This obligation persists under all conditions and must be fulfilled at any cost,” stated Professor Salim. He further emphasized that while rewards are promised for fulfilling these duties, failure to do so will make the community accountable to the Almighty.
Addressing the current national ambiance, Professor Salim noted, “When discussing the changing scenario, political shifts often dominate our thoughts, but changes in the economic and social landscape are equally impactful. The global situation has a significant effect on the Muslim community, more so than on others. Cultural, economic, and social challenges, including consumerism and distorted concepts of freedom, are being promoted under the guise of empowerment and gender justice.”
He also highlighted the challenges that the Dawah mission faces, remarking, “Challenging situations sometimes present opportunities. The current political landscape is well-known, and it must be understood that the present dispensation is not merely a political party but one with a deep-rooted ideology. This ideology, which has been in development for over a century, seeks to impose a singular cultural identity while attempting to suppress or assimilate others, erasing their unique identities.”
Professor Salim warned of the threat to democratic values, saying, “Our democracy and Constitution guarantee religious freedom, equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity. However, under the current regime, these values are under serious threat. The ruling party exhibits fascist tendencies, striving to impose its cultural and religious supremacy. Their ultimate goal is to undermine democracy and move the country towards a fascist state.”
He urged the Muslim community to remain focused on their goals and not be provoked by targeted attacks and violence, such as mob lynchings, which aim to instill fear and marginalize Muslims socially, politically, and economically. He stressed the importance of steadfastness in addressing injustice toward Dalits, weaker sections, and marginalized groups.
Professor Salim advocated for building strong relationships with fellow citizens and promoting the righteous path to help people emerge from darkness. “Muslims must work towards peace and communal harmony alongside like-minded individuals in the country. Contrary to what is often portrayed, a large number of people still believe in peace and communal harmony. It is the responsibility of Muslims to work for the welfare of the entire Indian population to fulfill the purpose of Dawah,” he concluded.
