Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has declared that Muslims will never forgive Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary for supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, accusing them of enabling the BJP’s attack on Shariat.
Addressing a gathering at the ‘Jalasa Youmul Quran’ event at Hakeem Mir Vazeer Ali Masjid on the last Friday of Ramadan, Owaisi strongly criticised Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, Union Minister and LJP leader Chirag Paswan, and RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary.
He alleged that despite being coalition partners in the BJP-led NDA government, these leaders had the power to halt the bill but were instead allowing the BJP to target mosques and Waqf properties.
Owaisi asserted that the Waqf Bill is part of a larger Hindutva agenda aimed at seizing Waqf properties, thereby preventing Muslims from practising their faith freely. Calling it a “black bill,” he warned that its likely passage on April 1 or 2 would be disastrous for Waqf assets.
“Waqf properties were built by our ancestors with their hard work. They do not belong to the government,” he said, wearing a black armband in protest against the bill. He further alleged, “Through this Waqf Bill, Narendra Modi is attacking our faith, our mosques, our dargahs, and khankhas.”
The MP questioned the fairness of allowing non-Muslims to be members of the Waqf Board when only Hindus are permitted to oversee temple management committees. “Why are Muslims not treated equally to Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians?” he asked.
Highlighting inconsistencies in property laws, he pointed out: “Under the law, if someone encroaches on the property of a temple, gurdwara, or church for 12 years, they cannot claim ownership. But under this Waqf Bill, if someone occupies a Waqf property for 12 years, they can become its owner. What kind of justice is this?”
Owaisi further criticised the bill for granting district collectors the authority to seize Waqf properties.
Turning his attention to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Owaisi condemned his remarks suggesting that Hindus feel unsafe in Muslim-majority areas. “In India, Hindus face no threat from Muslims, and Muslims face no threat from Hindus. The real threat to Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and even the Constitution comes from the RSS, its ideology, Modi, and Yogi,” he asserted.
