Muzaffarnagar, Sep 12: Rao Nadeem, a Muslim politician and property dealer, recently sold a house in a predominantly Hindu neighborhood in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, just months after its purchase.
According to a Rediff report, Nadeem, who heads the Awam-e-Hind party, said he had purchased the house located in the Bharatiya Colony, under the Nai Mandi police station area of the city “a few months back” and sold it off on Tuesday.
The sudden sale has drawn attention, particularly as it coincided with mounting protests by local Hindu groups, raising concerns about the rising communal tensions in the area, reported The Print.
The protests were initiated by several Hindu organizations that alleged the house had become a gathering spot for large numbers of Muslims offering ‘namaz’ since Nadeem acquired the property. These claims led to a backlash from some residents in the locality, who expressed discomfort with the perceived religious activity in what they considered a Hindu-dominated area.
In response to the growing unrest, local authorities launched a police inquiry to investigate the situation further. The inquiry aims to identify individuals or groups who might be spreading rumors and attempting to incite communal discord in the area. Police officials have expressed concern over the potential for such incidents to escalate tensions between communities, and they are actively working to ensure peace is maintained.
Rao Nadeem, however, has remained silent on the reasons behind his decision to sell the property so quickly after purchasing it. Despite the timing of the sale aligning with the protests, he has not publicly commented on whether the protests influenced his decision.
The situation in Muzaffarnagar highlights the fragile nature of communal relations in the region, which has seen similar tensions in the past. The ongoing police investigation is expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the sale and the alleged activities at the property.
